While those hot summer days are upon us, we first need to celebrate today…the First Day of Spring! And what better way to do so than to feature all the pink beauty that surrounds us at the moment in Fort Mill, SC.
Did you know that South Carolina actually outranks Georgia – “The Peach State” – in its production of peaches? During a normal year, South Carolina grows 60,000 tons of peaches.
This time each year, photographers flock to our treasured, home-grown crops to capture timeless landscape and portrait art. Me included! (Be sure to stop by The Peach Stand for a permit if you are shooting in exchange for money).
The blooms of peach trees appear three to five months before the fruits, but the exact time the trees flower depends on the previous winter’s temperatures and the trees’ variety.
As of today, the blooms are nearing peak along Hwy. 160 and Hwy. 21. And if you have a chance to check out the cute new little guys at the corner of Springfield Pkwy and Bus. 21 you won’t be disappointed. This crop was planted roughly a year ago in place of the crops where the new Del Webb community, Carolina Orchards, now resides.
